Cath
Connelly’s Newsletter and Gig Guide
August2007
Hello and welcome to
the August edition of Cath Connelly’s
newsletter!
Last week I had
the privilege of performing at the Melbourne Arts Centre as part of
the Cancer Council’s Arts Award. The awards are an annual
event, celebrating through short-stories, poetry, art and film the
work of people who are affected by cancer. So many moving
stories, with tales of victory or despair. Of all the
stories, the one that remains in my mind is of the lad who won the
category for Under-Eleven Short Story. In his description of
his battle with cancer, he wrote how he had always wished that he
was the son of Superman so that he would be immune from
cancer. The story ended with a victorious shout, that having
survived his cancer, “I realise that I am not the son of
Superman. I am Superman”!
All the finalists have their
work displayed at 15W Gallery, located at 15 Williams Street (cnr
Williams Street & Flinders Lane), Melbourne, from 23 July to 10
August, followed by a touring exhibition around Victoria.
Look out for it!
