Cath Connelly – Celtic
Harpist
Cath has been sharing and teaching the art of
Celtic harp for many years. She has developed an extensive
repertoire of harp music from Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Very
much in tune with the origins of this delightful instrument, Cath’s
repertoire includes songs from the beginnings of Celtic musical
expression to more modern compositions. She has composed
contemporary arrangements for many well-known songs, as well as
creating many of her own melodies.
Cath is also the fearless director of
Melbourne-based amateur harp groups Hills' Angels and
Angel Belles. Many of her harp students are members, meeting
monthly to practice tunes, share new pieces and work towards the
occasional public performance.
In
2004 Cath released her first album, Song
Line, Thin Place. This CD -
in collaboration with Greg Hunt on fiddle and mandolin - is a
hauntingly beautiful collection of traditional and original Celtic
arrangements.
In 2006 the duo re-named themselves Liminality, and in
2007 released their second album, Invocation. Cath and
Greg agree that this CD has taken their collaboration to another
level - even more sublime than the last one !
2008 saw the release of Cath and Greg's third album, Angels We
Have Heard. This Christmas Album provides the soothing
balm that is often needed at this frantic time of year.
Cath's
Live album also appeared in 2008. A delightful blend
of harp music and lively conversation makes listeners feel they are
in an intimate setting, experiencing one of Cath's engaging
performances.
In
2009 Cath responded to requests from professional meditation
leaders in search of a musical tool for their sessions. The
result is Cath's latest CD, Meditation. This is not your
conventional album. Instead, Cath's gentle, reflective harp-playing
bookends two periods of silence, specially timed to assist
meditators.
