Cath Connelly's Newsletter - April/May 2010

Hi Everyone,

Festival crazy season is nearly over. Wasn’t it fun! There is such terrific talent in the Australian Folk/Celtic scene and it is an honour to be given opportunities to perform alongside such beautiful musicians. Thank you to all who came up and chatted with me after my various concerts – it was a delight to meet you in person.

One festival that deserves a bigger presence is PAVE (www.pave.org.au). PAVE stands for Performing and Visual Events around Emerald, and it’s held every April in a stunning part of Victoria (Melbourne’s Dandenong Ranges). Many of the local venues provide performance space for talented local artists. Markets and street events also contribute to a wonderful week of festivities. I know it’s not fair to tell you about how good an event was that has just passed, but put a note in your diaries for a day-trip to Emerald in April 2011!

Greg Hunt and I have been gigging together again. It is always a delight to share the stage with such a talented and gentle person. We have been invited to perform at a Boîte evening on May 14th. In honour of the great tea-drinking traditions of both Ireland and Japan, the Boîte have devised an evening called Music of the Tea Lands. This means that we get to hear the stunning sound of Anne Norman performing with the shakuhachi (Japanese flute) and Mel Robinson on cello. It promises to be a truly special evening.  (See Gig Guide and http://boite.com.au/pages/event_detail.php?event_id=1293 for details).

For people from out of town, my harps and I may be coming your way!  I head off to tour around parts of New South Wales from May 15th.  Check out the Gig Guide to see if we can catch up with each other.

And don’t forget to get your tickets for the 2010 National Celtic Festival (www.nationalcelticfestival.com). The Committee has come up with some fantastic new ideas for this year’s festival, including a more intentional program around the topic of Celtic spirituality, in which I’ll be one of the presenters. Queen’s Birthday long-weekend in June, Portarlington (near Geelong).

I have really enjoyed your feedback on this newsletter. Keep the comments coming. Thanks!
