Liminality - Cath Connelly and Greg Hunt

Cath Connelly and Greg Hunt call themselves Liminality - the threshold space where our known experience merges with the enigmatic.  True to their Celtic roots, Cath and Greg combine Celtic harp, violin and mandola in a stunning collaboration that is more than the sum of their parts.

The instruments fuse beautifully in a presentation of music on the Celtic threshold.

Cath and Greg's most recent collaboration is a Christmas album. Angels We Have Heard was released in 2008, just in time for Christmas!

In an interview for outer-eastern Melbourne paper Upper Gully News, Cath described this new collaboration with Greg...

“It’s the Christmas album we've been dreaming of for years!  I was able to collaborate with [Melbourne-based fiddle player] Greg Hunt once again.  He’s a truly amazing talent, with such a sensitivity on any instrument he picks up, be it violin or viola, mandolin or mandola.

“And once again, we found we were totally on the same wavelength with this album.  In the recording studio, we were both so aware of tapping into something deeper through our music, whether it was our interpretation of traditional Christmas tunes or the couple of original compositions on a Christmas theme.”

Would it be fair to say this new album has caught a somewhat gentler, more reflective angle on Christmas than perhaps other CDs out there at this time of year?

“Oh definitely.  Look, it’s pretty hard to do Jingle Bells and Drummer Boy with a Celtic harp, and both Greg and I were very conscious of wanting to do something a bit different."

The spirit of this album is about an invitation to go deeper during a time of year when the busyness can be overwhelming.
